Left leg. Right leg. Sciatica (aka leg pain) will affect either leg
(and sometimes both). Paramus chiropractic care at Paramus Medical & Sports Rehabilitation Center
helps decrease leg pain and addresses
the spinal cause of the sciatica at the same time. Paramus Medical & Sports Rehabilitation Center guides
Paramus leg pain and back pain patients to pain relief with chiropractic care.
SCIATIC LEG PAIN: Right Leg or Left Leg
You have heard of right-handed people and left-handed
people, right? Sure! Did you know that the right
leg grows longer in left-handed people and the left leg grows longer in
right-handed people? Not all the time, but
research documents this differeence.
Bearing this in mind, it is not surprising that more
people have longer left legs (53%) than right
legs (39%). Incredibly, just 8% of people have equal
leg lengths. (1) What role does that play in
which leg will have sciatic leg pain? Discs will
bulge into the concavity of the curve due to a range
of issues like uneven stresses on the anulus of the disc. The
concavity of the spinal curve is on the long leg side. A right-handed person
with a long left leg will likely have left leg pain. Another curious point: hip pain often occurs
on the long leg side, too: 88.9% long leg and 11.1% short leg.
Sciatica is the same: 78.5% arises on the long
leg side versus 21.5% on the short leg side. (2,3) Your
Paramus chiropractor can measure a short leg pretty
easily by examining three things: iliac
crest, the verticality of the spine, and levelness of the posterosuperior iliac
spine dimples. Researchers noted that there is a strong
relationship between visual and xray measurements. (4) Trust your Paramus
chiropractor to find a short leg…and take care of any related
disc herniation causes of pain!
DISC HERNIATION RE-ABSORPTION WITH NON-SURGICAL CARE
A new study examined 75 cases of ruptured
lumbar disc herniation. 46 of the 75 cases had
leg pain radiculopathy: 46 cases on the left and 29 on
the right. (Makes sense now, right?)
At 5 years follow-up after non-surgical treatment, a
“reabsorption” phenomenon was found. The excellent and good rate of disc reabsorption
was 73.24%. (5) Paramus Medical & Sports Rehabilitation Center provides relieving
non-surgical care of Paramus leg pain and back pain.
RELIEF FOR Paramus LEG PAIN and BACK PAIN
And then recall the recent paper regarding
the benefits of chiropractic maintenance care: Maintenance care reduces
the number of painful days for acute back pain
episodes and increases the length of pain-free times
between back pain
episodes in patients with recurrent and persistent back pain. (6) Paramus Medical & Sports Rehabilitation Center
is here for those back pain and leg pain patients seeking fewer days with back and leg
pain and those who would like to live life with longer periods without leg and back pain.
