Be good to your spine and keep it healthy! Let Paramus Medical & Sports Rehabilitation Center care for your spine when it requires a little help to get back to its healthy state. Step one toward health for a Paramus smoker suffering with back pain may necessitate a chiropractic treatment plan that incorporates a plan to quit smoking.

Researchers are curious about issues linked to smoking. In a review of 7547 patients who underwent back surgery, they found that 18% were smokers. The researchers stated that contrasted with the non-smokers, the smokers were younger, male, nondiabetic, and nonobese. Patients in this group who have coronary artery disease were more likely to be smokers. Smokers who had lumbar spine back surgery came to their healthcare provider more with leg pain than back pain and disability. Their employment, insurance/uninsured, and education status were also linked to smoking status. Fascinatingly though, smoking status didn’t affect the disability status at a year after back surgery. (1) Modifying such risk factors work just as well for smokers and nonsmokers luckily. Paramus Medical & Sports Rehabilitation Center would encourage a Paramus smoker who has Paramus back pain create a plan to stop smoking.

The body gets what is good for it…and what is not. Smoking is not. Examining 2307 smokers and non-smokers, researchers found that smoking is most strongly connected to spine pain. Headache, trunk pain and limb pain followed. Active smoking is linked to pain in every part of the body. The spine and head take the brunt of the painful influence though. If a smoker does not like pain, you will want to consider stop smoking! (2) Paramus Medical & Sports Rehabilitation Center is with you to back your effort to quit smoking when you’re ready.
